Futures are trading way down this morning, thinking of selling out on the "typical" coffee break bounce if I get even on the tech stocks. In the meantime, I'm hearing more reports about the Win32.Kelvir and Win32.Serflog or Summon worms (name depends on who's looking), which may be a good reason to buy a computer security stock. The two in our sector lists are Symantec (in Software) and Check Point (Israeli stocks). Of the two, the Israeli stocks have been on a tear since I started tracking in mid-February, so I'm leaning that way. Then again, since my instincts have been so soundly wrong the past week, I decided to go with Symantec.

To borrow an expression from poker commentators, I "limped in" to the anti-virus, computer security area with a 100 shares of SYMC at $21.19. It was trading up a little on the open, I got it $0.06 above the opening price. The funny thing is that Symantec's big name product is Norton Antivirus, which I removed from the notebook I bought a couple weeks ago, replacing it with AVG Professional, which actually cost me around $40. If I followed the folksy school of investing, I'd never buy stock in a product I wouldn't use, but then, I had no business buying stock in Elan. SPeaking of which, ELN shares have been bouncing back the last two days at an amazing clip (sure, should have put my whole net worth in), so I bought 500 shares this morning at $7.37. My goal was to get $7.59 and sell out for a quick $100 after the round trip. Unfortunately, it hovered around $7.55 for a while and began to slip, so I sold out $7.46 for a round trip profit of $35, if I'd held it to the close I would have made $200 more. Not worth the risk, I was getting dizzy watching the ticker, and not worth it's own trade page.
