A few years ago I first came across Meal Mart Kosher for Passover meals in
my local Stop & Shop. They were individual sized meat courses, required
no refrigeration, and had expiration dates several years into the future.
Before Passover, they were selling them for $6.99 or $7.99 - after Passover
they had them in the front of the store for $2.50, so I bought the half dozen
they had left. It's not gourmet, but it's a Kosher meal you can take anywhere
and heat up in a microwave.
The problem is, nobody within driving distance of me sells Meal Mart meals, I only get them when I visit my sister in Monsey, NY. I've seen them for sale online at super high mark-ups, like double what they cost at a supermarket in Monsey. But Meal Mart doesn't have a retail mail-order operation, they only sell to resellers. I've been in the Internet mail order business for many years, selling the books I publish, so I'm thinking of contacting Meal Mart and looking into pricing on bulk orders of their non perishable meals for resale. The worst outcome I can see is I'd have a year's shopping done in advance. But it occurred to me that a cooperative might be a better way to go. I don't need another business to run, so what I'm interested in at this point is getting feedback as to whether there are other Jews out there looking for Meal Mart meals for travel and other non-perishable Kosher food to order for home. Based on the feedback, I'll decide whether or not to go into the Kosher mail-order business myself or whether to try to put together a buyers club of sorts. My personal e-mail is below, drop me a line and let me know what you think:
